Opportunity International Canada President Transitions to New Role
TORONTO--September 5, 2008--After five years of distinguished service, Opportunity International Canada President Gary Walsh announced his transition to a new position at Northeastern Seminary and Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, New York. The Board of Directors received Walsh's resignation letter with sadness and understanding, cognizant that Gary would be moving into an area of service that allows him to influence the next generation of Christian leaders and their response to global issues. Walsh has requested that his resignation be effective on or before December 31, 2008.
"Gary has built this organization into an effective servant of the poor," commented Norm Allen, Chair of the Opportunity International Canada Board of Directors. "In his five years with us, Gary's energetic leadership sharpened Opportunity International Canada's strategic direction, created a strong leadership team and expanded the support base by more than 100%."
In response to this news, the Board of Directors of Opportunity International Canada has designed an interim leadership plan and expressed their ongoing confidence in the senior management of the organization. A wide-ranging search process is also underway, with candidate applications currently being received and reviewed. Gary Walsh continues to work with the Board of Directors in order to effect an orderly and structured leadership transition.
The Board of Directors and staff of Opportunity International Canada are grateful for the way Gary has served with enthusiasm, wisdom and benevolence, and wish him and Ellen well in their new assignment.
